The founder of the Place Retreats Bali
Story
Jean-Claude is a psychotherapist, author, a London Times featured columnist and the founder of The Place Retreats, Bali.
He runs the London Practice in Notting Hill together with Anna Walton, Doctor of Counselling Psychology, and The Place Retreats in Bali, with a philosophy that overall health can’t be separated from mental health.
While we may obsess about taking care of our bodies by exercising and eating healthily, it is the negative mind that can overwhelm our thoughts and our lives.
Before finding his vocation in psychotherapy, Jean-Claude worked in the City and on Wall Street and continues to be the Executive Manager of a philanthropic foundation.
Jean-Claude began his career in the ’80s as a highly-successful London oil broker. At 25 he set up his own independent oil brokerage company, which was quickly acquired by Salomon Brothers (Phibro Energy – Energy Price Risk Management). From there Jean-Claude went on to join a global philanthropic foundation in 1993 with interests in telecommunications, space and water transportation.
Whilst living in Athens, Greece in 1999, Jean-Claude found his true calling in life, the understanding of the human mind. Training there for six and a half years with one of Athens’ leading psychiatrist/neurologist/family therapist, he completed in 2003 his Diploma of Psychotherapy & Clinical Hypnotherapy at ICH teaching from King’s College London.
His practice rapidly grew from Athens to London, where in 2003 he set up the London Practice. From there he works with clients both in-person and around the world thanks to modern technology! Jean Claude serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of Europe’s top medical rehab, the Calda Clinic and is fluent in seven languages, with his practice predominantly in English.
His counselling is confidential, affirmative and non-judgmental, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, politics, culture or nationality.
He is firmly committed to continuous professional development and growth.
Jean-Claude is also an avid writer, currently penning three books with topics that have featured heavily in his practice: ‘Fear or Love – How to handle all your relationships’, ‘How to Raise Good Husbands’ and ‘How to Grow Up’. He has also had over 20 feature columns in London’s Saturday Times.
In 2015, Jean-Claude realised his lifelong dream by setting up a retreat centre for psychotherapy and family therapy in combination with Kundalini yoga and meditation in Seminyak, Bali. The intention of his luxurious retreat is to assist and support individuals, couples and groups to reach their goals and become the best version of themselves in immersive and tranquil surroundings.
